There’s always a special place for bookstores, especially indie ones, in the hearts of travelers and wanderers. Books and zines, in their physical format, are doors to discovery within one’s confines.
A sanctuary that perfectly describes this in the heart of Kuala Lumpur is none other than Tokosue. It has been supporting self-published, small publishers, artisans and crafters since its inception and even held community events that spark creativity and curiosity.
This October 2025 will mark the indie bookstore’s final days, after struggling with financial woes.
30-day Clearance Sale in October
According to the owner Sue Emoqwin, since its establishment in 2022, “Tokosue has been more than an indie bookstore and zine space. It has been a community built on love for stories, creativity, and the courage to dream differently.”
This October, the shop will raise its flag one last time with a clearance sale with up to 70% discounts on books, zines, plus Tokosue’s equipment such as display racks, book racks, chairs, microphones, CCTV and more.
Come Show Your Support One Last Time
One doesn’t need to spend so much to explore, as a book can do justice equally, as long as one allows their mind to dream upon flicking the pages of the book.
If you are in KL and are looking for a breath of fresh air, a visit (and share with your friends and family) to Tokosue for their final days will be worth it. You won’t know what you’ll stumble upon within this cozy bookstore.
It might be a nugget of wisdom hidden within the pages of a zine, or a destination that’s calling you within the pages of an indie book. Or perhaps the encounter with some local arts and crafts that will give you the motivation needed being in a fast-paced world today.
You can follow TOKOSUE on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates. Directions to the bookstore are here.
