Malaysia is no stranger to premium-yet-affordable medical tourism offerings. Recently, the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) launched Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism (MYMT) 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) on 28th July 2025.
Officiating the event was Minister of Health Malaysia Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad. The event saw him unveiling the campaign’s logo and tagline, “Healing Meets Hospitality.”
“Now, not only are we focusing on modern medicine alone, we are also exploring a more integrative healthcare a holistic ecosystem that blends modern medicine, wellness, Traditional & Complementary Medicine (T&CM) and preventive care,” said Dr. Dzulkefly, who is also the Chairman of MHTC.
Coinciding with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, next year would be the first Medical Tourism Year for the country, and here are three things that was unveiled at the launch.
Growing Medical Tourism Industry Poised Ambitious Goals for Malaysia – RM12b by 2030
In 2024, Malaysia welcomed 1.6 million healthcare travelers, reflecting a 14% year-on-year increase.
This generated RM2.72 billion in revenue, a remarkable 21% growth compared to 2023.
As a top choice for health travelers globally, MHTC hopes to elevate these achievements by setting an ambitious goal for MYMT 2026: RM12 billion (2.9b USD) in industry revenue by 2030.
Siti Nurhaliza as the Campaign Ambassador
The nation’s beloved and internationally renowned singer Dato’ Seri Siti Nurhaliza has been chosen as the official ambassador for MYMT2026.
Through her reputation, influence within the country and on the international stage, it is hoped that she would be able to boost the awareness of Malaysia as a premium yet affordable healthcare destination.
As a Muslimah herself, the choice of Siti Nurhaliza as the campaign ambassador solidifies further credibility that Malaysia is a Muslim-women-friendly destination for healthcare seekers.
World-class Healthcare Services via Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital (FMTH) Program
During the launch, four outstanding hospitals were selected for their excellence. These are National Heart Institute (IJN), Island Hospital Penang, Mahkota Medical Centre, and Subang Jaya Medical Centre
These hospitals were selected by their clinical care, innovation, and international patient services.
The winner of this FMTH program would be announced in December 2025.
Besides FMTH program, under the stewardship of MHTC, there are 82 member hospitals across the country where travelers can choose to do check up, or go for advanced treatments.
