The Uniform Evolves. Responding to the unified voice of its Allstars, AirAsia has formally updated its dress code, making the hijab a permanent, professionally tailored option for all female cabin crew.
The airline stated that this change is based on employee and public feedback, reinforcing its “people-first culture” and ensuring staff feel confident and comfortable. The hijab option will be a professionally tailored addition to the existing iconic red uniform, similar to the uniform worn by crew on routes where the hijab is already required (such as Jeddah).
CEO of Capital A Tony Fernandes said that respecting different views and beliefs has been part of AirAsia’s culture, which has also reflected in their success throughout the years.
One of the greatest strengths of AirAsia has always been our diverse and outspoken Allstars. When our cabin crew raised this with management, it was important for us to listen. This is how we grow: by evolving together, guided by the voices of our people,” he said.

This isn’t just a policy tweak; it’s a confident stride into a “people-first culture,” ensuring every crew member feels comfortable, respected, and authentically represented while connecting global communities.
This latest update reflects AirAsia’s growth and expansion as a global airline with a diverse workforce that mirrors the communities and cultures we connect every day,” said Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group Bo Lingam.
“Our uniforms have always reflected professionalism, safety and comfort, and this evolution builds on that foundation by giving our people the confidence to represent AirAsia in ways that align with their beliefs.”
According to Suhaila Hassan, Group Head of Cabin Crew Department, this iconic red look is hoped to be implemented with a detailed design by Ramadan 2026.
How do you feel about these transformational changes in the aviation world? As a Muslimah, would you put a female cabin crew as your CV aspirations now?
