Manufacturers across Hong Kong and Macao are positioned for wider international reach following a series of strategic agreements secured by Hong Kong’s GBA Halal Certification Centre (GHCC) at the recent Grand Halal Bangkok 2026 conference.
Hosted alongside industry leaders by CICOT (Central Islamic Council of Thailand) Thailand, the international gathering served as a backdrop for GHCC to formalize three major Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs). The newly minted partnerships bridge the Greater Bay Area with key certification authorities spanning three continents:
- India: Jamiat Ulama Halal Foundation (JUHF)
- Ghana: Bureau of Halal Certification
- Spain: Instituto Halal
“Through Grand Halal Bangkok 2026 hosted by CICOT Thailand, GHCC successfully bridges the Greater Bay Area with the global Halal ecosystem. These MRAs with India, Ghana, and Spain eliminate technical trade barriers, opening vital economic corridors for our local industries,” GHCC Executive Director Syddeqah Yuen said at the landmark event.
By harmonizing compliance standards across South Asia, West Africa, and Europe, the agreements are designed to cut through technical trade bottlenecks. Local producers can now leverage verified, universally respected credentials to navigate foreign markets and export their goods much more efficiently.
“We take our role as gatekeepers of Halal integrity very seriously. This ensures that products coming out of Hong Kong and Macao not only achieve global market access but explicitly protect the religious values, health, and trust of Muslim consumers worldwide,” she also emphasized the strategic importance of the accord in linking regional businesses to the broader international Halal economy.
Yuen added that maintaining rigorous oversight remains central to the organization’s mandate as cross-border trade scales up.
With these MRAs in place, GHCC will enhance connectivity between regional manufacturers in Hong Kong and Macao and the booming international Halal economy via strict compliance frameworks, scientific testing, and strategic global partnerships.
