Opening its gates only a couple of times in a year, this time, in conjunction with Singapore’s 60th Independence Day, visitors will get the opportunity to explore this national landmark.

What is Istana?
Istana in Malay means palace.
It is also the official residence of The President of Singapore, currently Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
Mr Tharman is the successor of Halimah Yacob, the first woman to take seat as the President of the city-state.
The Istana, has a rich history. Initially known as the Government house, evolving from a colonial governor’s residence to the official seat of the President of Singapore.
Open only several times in a year
Did you know that the Istana only opens its doors to the public on select holidays throughout the year?
This time, Istana’s Open House coincides with the republic’s 60th independence day.
But if you miss it this time, not to worry, pay attention to upcoming holidays where big celebrations like Chinese New Year and Hari Raya (Eid-ul Fitr ). This is also the time when the Istana is open to public.
Istana Heritage Tour
For those wishing to connect with Singapore’s history, the Heritage Tour is one to experience.
In this tour, you’ll learn deeper about its untold stories and history from exploring the Istana grounds.
This is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity not to be missed.
During this 1-hour walking tour, you’ll get to explore its rich history, architectural heritage, and unique flora and fauna. The tour begins at the Main Gate and features highlights such as the Villa, Japanese Garden, and Ceremonial Plaza.
Tours are conducted in English and Mandarin every hour from 9am to 4pm.

There will be limited edition souvenirs
This year, there will be merchandise booths offering limited-edition Istana souvenirs and President’s Challenge souvenirs.
The souvenirs include memorabilia such as caps, mugs, bookmarks, postcards, luggage tags, keychains and magnets.

Is it free?
Entry to Istana is Free for Singaporeans & Singapore Permanent Resident holders.
Tickets are SGD20 per adult and SGD10 per child (4 to 12 years). Additional fees apply for visiting the Villa and the Heritage Tour.
Only cashless payments via Credit/Debit Card and QR Code will be accepted.
